July 2005 saw our first team visit to Siberia, Russia. A team of five from the UK aged between 15—26 years plus a team from the USA & Canada travelled from Moscow via Trans Siberian railway across Russia to the city of Perm in the Ural Mountains (population 1 million). The team’s main purpose for the visit was to gain an understanding of the needs in Perm, to visit some of the local orphanages to distribute food & clothes, and to help with the young offenders to build relationships and care for the volunteers there.
