Changing Lives for Good

Himalayan Mountain Outreach - Nepal

This is a region of stunning beauty with awesome mountain backdrops enjoyed by tourists around the World. But, behind the pictures, there are sad stories of extreme poverty, serious hardship and inadequate resources. This, combined with a regular cycle of devastating floods, landslides and earthquakes make it a hostile environment to live.

The local tribal peoples subsist on basic farming but struggle to educate their children, and many young girls carry loads of hand chiselled stones up to 25 kilos in weight on their backs and necks casuing serious long term health damage.

Eagles Wings is working with the Himalayan Tribal Community Development NGO in Chitwan and Kathmandu to improve living conditions by providing blankets, warm clothing and pioneering self sufficiency projects into remote mountain areas.

This Chitwan sewing project has been a huge success with the first ten ladies graduating at the end of 2022. They were presented with their certificates and sewing machines by Bruce Oliver of Eagles Wings after the completion of 6 months of training. By giving the ladies a skill it enables them to earn enough to school their children and return to their mountain villages and run their own small business or cooperative. This was a joint intiative with our partners HTCD Nepal.

Living conditions in the mountains are harsh and in the rainy season there is a continual threat of landslides wiping out access roads and homes.

Visitors to this school in a remote hilly area in Gorkha region were well received by the local headmaster who supervised the handing out of winter warm fleeces to all of the children at the end of 2022.
